October Self-Care: A Gentle Reminder for Your Monthly Breast Self-Exam 🌸
Lisa Lawley | SEP 26, 2024

As October approaches, it’s a perfect time to renew our commitment to self-care in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One simple but powerful way to nurture ourselves is by performing a regular breast self-exam. Taking just a few minutes each month to check in with your body is an act of self-love, much like stepping onto your yoga mat or connecting with Reiki energy.
Here’s a gentle guide to help you with this important self-care practice:
Stand in front of a mirror with your shoulders straight and arms on your hips. Take a moment to look at your breasts and notice any changes in size, shape, or color. Keep an eye out for any visible distortion, swelling, or unusual changes.
Lie down and use your right hand to examine your left breast, and your left hand for your right breast. Use a firm, smooth touch with the first few fingers of your hand, keeping them flat and together. Cover the entire breast from top to bottom, side to side, moving in a circular pattern. Be thorough and take your time.
Many women find it easiest to perform this step in the shower. While standing or sitting, repeat the same hand movements as in Step 2, covering your entire breast once more. This is another opportunity to notice anything that feels different or unusual.
You know your body best. By regularly performing this simple self-check, you become more familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel. If you ever notice any changes or something that feels unusual, reach out to your healthcare provider.
Making this a regular part of your self-care routine can be just as empowering as your yoga practice or Reiki sessions. It’s a small, proactive step you can take toward nurturing your health and well-being.
Wishing you a month of wellness, peace, and gentle self-awareness. 🌸
