Maeve: Sovereignty, Power, and the Sacred Feminine
Lisa Lawley | FEB 4, 2025

In our most recent Lunar Women’s Circle, we explored the essence of Maeve, an Irish warrior queen and goddess of sovereignty. Her story weaves together themes of personal power, embodiment, and the wisdom of the feminine, offering us rich inspiration for our own journeys.
Maeve (Medb in Old Irish) is often remembered as the formidable Queen of Connacht, a figure of legend and myth whose tales are deeply rooted in Irish lore. She is most famous for the Táin Bó Cúailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley), an epic in which she wages war over the possession of a prized bull, a symbol of strength and abundance. However, beyond the surface of battle and ambition, Maeve represents something deeper—the sovereignty of the land and the sovereignty of self.
Her name is said to mean "she who intoxicates", hinting at her potent, magnetic energy. She embodies a woman fully in her power, unapologetic in her desires and unafraid to take up space. In many ways, Maeve invites us to reclaim our own sense of inner sovereignty—to step into our truth with confidence, to own our choices, and to honor our intuition as a guiding force.
The stories of ancient goddesses and queens often hold wisdom for today’s world. Maeve’s essence speaks to:
Maeve’s energy aligns beautifully with the cycles of the moon. She is a figure of transformation, guiding us through phases of bold action and deep rest. Just as the full moon illuminates all that is ready to be seen, Maeve’s presence in myth encourages us to claim what is rightfully ours—our voices, our desires, and our paths.
When we gather in our Lunar Women’s Circle, we honor these ancient energies, weaving them into our present-day experiences. Maeve’s lessons remind us that our personal power is sacred, and the way we walk in the world is a reflection of that inner sovereignty.
If this exploration of Maeve resonates with you, we invite you to join us for our next Lunar Women’s Circle. Each gathering offers a space to connect, reflect, and deepen your journey. Learn more and register here.🌙✨
