Hummingbird Medicine – A Guide to Compassion in Motion
Lisa Lawley | APR 1
Continuing with our series on Compassion, we move to Hummingbird. While some may connect with the deep, quiet presence of Kran Yin, others may feel more drawn to the energy of animal medicine-- and for the theme of compassion, there is no better guide than the Hummingbird.
In animal medicine traditions, Hummingbird represents:
Though tiny, Hummingbirds travel vast distances, their wings moving in a blur of motion yet allowing them to hover in perfect stillness. They show us that compassion is not just about witnessing suffering—it is also about honoring joy.
One of the most profound lessons Hummingbird teaches is that we must allow ourselves to receive. Just as the hummingbird sips nectar to sustain itself, we, too, must nourish ourselves, rest, and embrace life’s simple joys.
Compassion is not just an outward offering—it is a dance of giving and receiving, movement and stillness.
If you are feeling heavy, depleted, or weighed down, Hummingbird may be calling to you.
The medicine of the Hummingbird and Kuan Yin together reminds us that compassion is not just about holding others—it is about finding balance, honoring joy, and remembering that our own hearts need tending too.
If this resonates with you, I invite you to join us for our next Lunar Women’s Circle, where we continue exploring the wisdom of goddess archetypes, animal medicine, and the deep work of self-healing. Learn more and register here:
